Ghulum Rasool the cold drinks seller, was always a welcome sight in the middle of the Dal Lake on a sweltering afternoon. He had the rangey physical appearance of tribes people from the mountains, and he had the uncanny knack of appearing as if from nowhere. We often joked that he must be a djinn (ghost).

In the background is a riceboat ~ a traditional home of the Kashmiri boat people.
