The troubled region of Kashmir enjoyed it's longest period of peace and tranquility in the 70s & 80s which came to an abrupt end in October 1989.
The poignant image of Abdur Rahman was captured only weeks before the troubles began when Kashmir was at it's most peaceful.
Ghulam died in 2004 and Rahman in 2011, respectively.
The wooden bridge in the distance which seperated Nageen and Dal lakes has since been destroyed during the civil unrest.
